CAD Drafter / BIM Modeler (HVAC & Sheet Metal)

Full-Time | In-Office

R.F. Knox Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced CAD Drafter / BIM Modeler to join our growing CAD department. We offer very competitive pay, strong benefits, and the opportunity to work on a wide range of commercial HVAC, industrial fabrication, and architectural sheet metal projects.

This role plays a key part in turning design concepts into precise BIM models and fabrication-ready drawings that support our shop and field installation teams.

If you have strong Revit experience and a background in sheet metal or mechanical drafting, this is an opportunity to work on challenging projects with an established company known for high-quality craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed 3D BIM models and fabrication drawings for HVAC ductwork and sheet metal systems using Autodesk Revit
  • Produce shop drawings, spool sheets, and installation layouts for fabrication and field installation teams
  • Interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical construction documents
  • Coordinate models with other trades during BIM coordination and resolve conflicts
  • Participate in coordination meetings and clash detection reviews
  • Maintain organized drawing sets and revisions throughout the project lifecycle
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and field supervisors
  • Assist with material takeoffs and fabrication details when required
  • Ensure drawings meet company standards, project specifications, and deadlines

Required Qualifications

  • Strong Autodesk Revit experience (Required)
  • Sheet metal drafting experience (Required for first hire)
  • Navisworks Manage experience (Required for first hire)
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and architectural drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce fabrication-level drawings
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience using Autodesk Fabrication MEP inside Revit
  • Experience with Evolve MEP
  • Experience working with commercial HVAC or mechanical contractors
  • Familiarity with BIM coordination workflows
  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and installation processes

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s degree or technical training in Drafting, Engineering Technology, BIM, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of drafting experience in HVAC, mechanical systems, sheet metal, or construction preferred
